Jakob Spruce is a multidisciplinary theatre artist born and raised in the heart of Appalachia. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild, AFT-Kanawha, West Virginia Theatre Association, and the Educational Theatre Association. Jakob is an educator that places a great emphasis on restorative justice and theatrical intimacy practices in the classroom and rehearsal room. Trained in mental health first aid, Jakob seeks to create safe and inclusive work environments that allow for positive, collaborative artistic expression in everything he does.
Jakob holds an honors B.A. in Theatre Arts (Tech/Design) and minors in Musical Theatre, Gender Studies, and English. He also holds an MFA in Writing for the Screen & Stage from Point Park University. Professionally, he has worked at Theatre West Virginia, the Glimmerglass Opera Festival, Children's Theatre of Charleston, Academy of Arts at January's, and more. He currently serves as the theatre director at Capital High School in Charleston, WV. Previously, he was the Fine Arts Facilitator for Upshur County Schools and the Assistant Technical Director at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
